The State of Union address, given by Barrack Obama, was very touching to the NRA community. The NRA clearly doesn’t want there to be any restrictions placed on the solicitation of guns. Wayne LaPierre said that Obama is “not [trying]t keeping kids safe at school” but is trying to “dismantle the Second Amendment.”The NRA has taken the speech as a threat “to destroy [their] Second Amendment rights.” LaPierre believes “President Obama [has said] nothing to about school security and nothing he proposed has anything to do with protecting one child in any school in this country.”

The NRA says that Obama has used the Sandy Hook shooting to “launch the most aggressive campaign in history to destroy [their] Second Amendment rights”. Obama spoke about his plan in a Google Hangout chat, which is to “[not] ban handguns, but [to] keep in mind that what we’re trying to do is come up with a package that protects Second Amendment rights but also makes a meaningful difference in reducing violence.” The NRA sent out its battle cry on that following Thursday saying “good Americans are prudently getting ready to protect themselves.”

Obama said in his speech:

“Because in the two months since Newtown, more than a thousand birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries have been stolen from our lives by a bullet from a gun.”

The NRA soon adopted this policy on gun violence in schools: “to put armed and trained security officers in schools to protect students.”Besides Obama’s attack using Sandy Hook, the media is a big part of the propaganda. The media is using Sandy Hook to their advantage and make the gun owners to appear as evil doers. LaPierre say that “the enemies of freedom demonize gun buyers and portray us as social lepers” and he is very upset at the way that the media has shown the people who express their right to bear arms. He also blames the media for making people guilty for buying guns. In LaPierre’s eyes, the media is hindering people from using their right and people who are considering becoming members of the NRA.

LaPierre said that “[They] will not appease. [They] will buy more guns than ever. [They] will use them for sport and lawful self-defense more than ever. [They] will grow the NRA more than ever. And [they] will be prouder than ever to be freedom-loving NRA patriots. [They] will Stand and Fight.” This in so many words is saying that the NRA is declaring war against the new proposed regulation that is being debated. They will not in any way let anything get passed that applies restrictions on buying guns. In this situation, regulations on the issue is making the problem worse because the opposite of what the intended will happen. The NRA expects anyone who loves their guns to be willing come together and fight for their freedom.

Great article! You have a lot of embedded quotes which read smoothly and add credibility to your points. This is definitely a hot topic and you did a good side of presenting both sides of the argument. Also, I liked that you included the Second Amendment.
